Application must be received by Friday, March 5, 2010
All scholarships awarded through the Visalia Education Foundation require the following:
1. Complete Application
2. Essay (must be only one page, one-sided)
3. Letter of recommendation
4. High School Transcript
All applications will be reviewed - there is no limit on the applications that can be submitted per school site.
Cliff Denham Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $500
For a student who is studying to become a teacher or in other areas of the education field.
Chan Asian-American Scholarship: 1 @ $250
For a student of Asian/American descent, strong academics and contribution to school or community.
Community Scholarship: 5 @ $250
One scholarship will be awarded to each High School for an outstanding and deserving student.
Frances Cutler Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $2,000
Financial need will not be a determining factor. This student must have a 3.5 or better grade point average. Student receiving scholarship must be enrolled in college full time.
Exchange Club Scholarship: 1 @ $250
For a student who has overcome adversity and has a sense of American patriotism, and love of country.
Monte Melikonian Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $1000
One scholarship will be awarded to a highly accomplished Mt. Whitney student. This scholarship is not based on religion or national origin.
Annie Mitchell Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $2,000
Financial needs will not be a determining factor. This student must have a 3.5 or better grade point average and be continuing their studies in the area of education or history. Student receiving scholarship must be enrolled in college full time.
Myers Scholarship: 1 @ $250
This scholarship will be awarded to a Sequoia High School student who is outstanding and deserving.
Visalia Education Foundation Scholarship: 4 @ $1000
For students who have been involved in performing or visual arts most of their high school years. Your letter of recommendation should come from a teacher in the arts. Grade point average must be at least a 3.5. One scholarship will be awarded to each of the four high schools.
Frances C. Smith Horticultural: 1 @ $100
This scholarship is awarded to a student continuing in their education in agriculture or related studies.
*Visalia Women’s Civic Club: 2 @ $500
This student must have a 2.5 or better grade point average. Students pursuing certificates of completion in a program, i.e. fire, police, medical. EMT from an accredited school will be considered.
*Dr. Richard Howard Ehrgott Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $250
This scholarship is based on financial need. It will be given to a student studying in the field of education. Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
*PEO Chapter HF Scholarship: 1 @ TBA
PEO is an international philanthropic education organization for women. The local chapter HF is offering a scholarship (amount TBA). The recipient must be a female graduate of a Visalia High School with a 2.5 minimum GPA. The scholarship is not based on financial need. Chapter members will review these applications.
*Julie Reed Memorial Scholarship: 1 @ $250
This Memorial Scholarship is in honor of past Willow Glen PTA President, Julie Reed. The scholarship is geared toward a student who attended Willow Glen between grades 4 to 6. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or better, involved in various community service programs and active in student body activities.
*Max E Cochran Family Scholarship: 1 @ $5000
This scholarship is based on financial need. It will be given to a student studying teaching or other related educational fields. Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA and completed A-G college requirements. Student will need to be enrolled in a California State University or the University of California system.
*Tanner Berbereia Memorial Scholarship: 3 @ $1000
For students with a grade point average of 3.5 or above who will be attending a four year university. Involvement in extracurricular activities: sports, the arts, student government, etc.
*Veterans of Foreign Wars - Sequoia Post 1 @ $250
One scholarship will be awarded to a Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, Grandson of Foreign Service of U.S. Armed services. Must have a 3.0 GPA and has demonstrated practical school citizenship. Honorable discharge papers must be included with application.
The Foundation Scholarship Committee will review these applications.
*Scholarships may be reviewed by the donating family/chapter.

A school representative or a representative of the Foundation will present all scholarships to the 2010 graduates. In the case of Memorial Scholarships, family members may desire to make the presentation. The Visalia Education Foundation will notify the schools of the arrangements on individual scholarships.
